Now it's not that were trying to be condescending or pedantic but the simple truth is they are both manufacturers of vacuum cleaners.
Hoover by fortunate default have many times acquired the generic term for a vacuum cleaner, much the same as Coca Cola have acquired the generic term for Cola the drink much to the dismay of say Pepsi Cola when people ask for a Coke.
